Getting Rid of Moles

You can opt for a variety of different mole removal methods and getting rid of moles is not too difficult with today’s modern technology. There are also some home remedies you can try out if you prefer. So what are the main types of mole removal and how can they help you?

Freezing

Freezing moles is a common choice for getting rid of moles and is also used on warts. It is typically used on small raised moles. A precise “stick” is carefully dipped into a liquid gas and then touched on to your mole. This instantly freezes the mole which can then be simply plucked off. This is quite a quick method but it can sting a quite bit afterwards.

Shave it off

Some raised moles can be shaved off using a surgical blade. You will need to have a local anesthetic to numb the area where the mole is. This process will leave an open wound and is followed by laser treatment to close up and tidy the wound. Depending on the size of the mole you may end up with some scarring from this method of treatment in particular.

Chemical Removal

This uses acids such as salicylic acid to remove the mole by chemical erosion. It is generally NOT recommended and should only be used on certain types of moles. It is primarily used on acne and warts. Consult your doctor before trying this treatment.

Punch Biopsy

This is usually done for moles that are suspicious and require further testing to detect cancerous cells but it can be used to take the entire mole as well. This process uses a punch which is a specific tool for cutting and removing a circular area of skin.

Surgery

This is again normally used for moles that are cancerous to remove not only the mole but also some surrounding skin to ensure that the cancer does not spread. You will need stitches after this treatment and you will almost definitely acquire a scar but it is a small price to pay when suffering from skin cancer.

Removing moles can be expensive but if the mole is dangerous to your health you should not put it off. If you notice any abnormalities in your mole such as a change in color, size or shape than report it to your doctor immediately who will probably want to make a record of these changes and test it for cancerous cells. In these cases it is always better to be safe than sorry. If your mole is constantly being nipped by shaving or becoming an open wound due to being in a place that persistently rubs and irritates it you should also consider getting rid of it. Moles such as these are at higher risk of becoming abnormal and developing into melanoma (skin cancer). Always consult your doctor before trying out any new treatments, even if it is at home mole removal cream so that they may examine your mole for potential health risks.
