Skin Mole Types
The word mole is often used to describe any kind of irregularity or abnormality in the skin. In fact it covers a large range of different skin abnormalities and each one needs to be treated and addressed in a different way.
Out of all skin mole types you will be more familiar with the benign congenital variety also known as nevi. These are caused by pigmented skin cells grouping together in one area of the skin. There are usually harmless and are mostly present from birth although they can appear later on as well during the first 20 years.
Skin Mole Types Common
Nevi Usually benign pigmented skin in small circular spots around the body.
Freckles Darkened flat spots that usually darken after sun exposure and are common with fair or red haired individuals.
Dysplastic Nevi Also known as atypical moles these are moles that are irregular in shape, size and texture. These moles are more sensitive to sunlight exposure and may develop into skin cancer if over exposed.
